100% Biodegradable and Compostable
At the Futurescape event last month, DS Technical Nonwoven, a Belgian producer of needle punched nonwovens, presented its Biocovers range. Biocovers is the first 100% biodegradable and compostable weed and erosion control mat.
As raw material, the biopolymer PLA (Poly Lactid Acid) is used. PLA is completely made out of plant material and therefore a renewable resource. Biocovers is combined with planting and will prevent weed growth and surface erosion for 3-5 years. At the end of the life time, Biocovers will fully break down into nutritious matter leaving no synthetic residues.
